Zilker Kite Festival

The 2016 Zilker Kite Festival was nothing short of glorious. Sure, the sun didn't show up and the wind was a little strong. Overall there experience was still memorable as one of the long standing Austin traditions.

Austin has a lot of festivals, and of all the festivals in town, this one is towards the top of the list. There is something magical about flying a kite. Put a kite in someones hands and watch that curiously adventurous, aw-stuck, child take control of the mind/body/spirit. That inner child starts to run with the kite as it sores to new heights. This flying object is suddenly an extension of  their fingertips. The faster they run, the more engulfed in the moment they become. It helps keeps us grounded as our spirits lift towards the heavens.

Of course, if you don't have a kite, the festival is still enjoyable. A couple cool cats took their hammocks, pup, and a good book.

As you walk around the great lawn, you might have to watch out for the occasional rouged kite or strings that mingled with their flying neighbor.

When the kids are ready for a kite flying break, the whole Northwest section of the park was the children fun zone. There were organized games, face paints, moon walks, slides and kite making.

The fun wasn't just for the kido's either. I spotted a few Acro-Yoga moves around the park.

Its spring time at the park, and look who I spotted. goodpop, is an Austin native all natural frozen treat company dishing out delicious and refreshing flavors with wholesome ingredients. Be sure to add them to your next grocery list: Summer Is Coming!!

The kites weren't the only stars of the show that day. Bubble machines were everywhere. Someone even brought a giant bubble net. The children (and a few adults) were enthralled with this addition as they ran after the quick moving floating orbs or fun. I didn't see that guy take a break for a solid ten minutes. This is my open letter thanking him for that!

We look forward to seeing you at next years Zilker Kite Festival.
