Cavanaugh and Mousey

There were countless things I could have done that night. When most of your day is devoted to being at work, those few hours after work, before its time to hit the hay to start another day are especially precious.  Often times it can be a challenge to find the motivation to run to the grocery store, make dinner, and let alone go back out to catch a show downtown. I went back and forth all day telling myself every reason why I wanted to stay in. Something drew me to scratched off all the excuses and before I knew it I was out the door! This was probably the single best choice I made that day. I have to thank Blue at Awake and Moving for the great suggestion.
Open Mike Eagle
It was a quite December Tuesday night in downtown Austin.
There was about half an hour left in the day when Cavanaugh took the stage.  The duo is made up of Open Mike Eagle and Serengeti. This was by far the best show I've seen in a while . That's all there really is to say.

Serengeti
Okay, I'll go on, because these guys really hit out of the park. They walked on stage quietly, Serengeti flashed a smile as Open Mike Eagle dropped the first beat. The duos energy on stage instantly brought the crowd forward and captivated everyone's attention. How would I describe there music? Perfect. It felt raw and unfiltered hip hop dipped in humor. This isn't the hip hop you hear on most radio stations. It's actual rhythm and poetry.

Their set up was simple, Open Mike Eagle made a few beats on the fly throughout the show. The rest was played off their phones. The way they strung words together really make you appreciate  their art. In between songs they let their personalities show, cracking jokes and playfully picking on each other. A few times they preformed lines from some of their favorite Christmas movies like Lethal Weapon and Full Metal Jacket.

Individually the two are strong artists, together they take it to the next level. If you feel like listening to some good music with an underground yet inviting sense of humor, check them out here. While you are there, make sure to support the artists and drop $7.99 on their latest, Time & Materials. It's worth skipping the chain coffee shop for a day.

Of course, the show would not have been the same without Mousey. She entertained the crowd between sets with her funky beats and killer voice! She jumped on stage sole but filled the room with her confidence.  Her sense of humor paired nicely with the shows vibe. She was a delight to talk to.  Keep an eye and ear out for more videos on her youtube channel.
