and a mic in hand. He walked up center stage. As the first beat filled the air, the crowd instantly lit up, pushing the barricade to the front of the stage.
Gibbs has made a name for himself as an independent artist. He has a few albums and a mix tape under his belt. My personal favorite thus far is PiƱata. Its an infusion of the melodic beats of Madlib contrasted with Gibbs raw emotion driven rhymes. The album also has plenty of other artist sprinkled in; Casey Veggies, Earl Sweatshirt, Danny Brown, Ab-Soul, and Scarface to name a few.
Gibbs has passed though Austin several times over the past few years for SXSW and a few festivals. Being able to catch him for the first time in a relatively small setting made the experience even more memorable. The only camera I had on me was a Leica d-lux4. The photos can be grainy, but sometime you have to push though that and just roll with it. I recommend giving his discography a listen, and when you do be ready to hit repeat.
