Cavanaugh and Mousey

There were countless things I could have done that night. When most of your day is devoted to being at work, those few hours after work, before its time to hit the hay to start another day are especially precious.  Often times it can be a challenge to find the motivation to run to the grocery store, make dinner, and let alone go back out to catch a show downtown. I went back and forth all day telling myself every reason why I wanted to stay in. Something drew me to scratched off all the excuses and before I knew it I was out the door! This was probably the single best choice I made that day. I have to thank Blue at Awake and Moving for the great suggestion.

It was a quite December Tuesday night in downtown Austin.

Freddie Gibbs

It was hazy, there were full bottles on the DJ table and behind the blue and red lights entered the embodiment of confidence, Freddie Gibbs. No intro, no hype man, just his DJ

Prince let you listen to this.

This is the cover of CREEP you've read about or the cover you've dreamt about.

::UPDATED::  The video was taken down for some time but recently got permission from all parties involved. It's back up for everybody to enjoy.

As many of you have tried to find anything by Prince online you've noticed

Space Jam + Sledding With Tigers = Wow

I waited for months for this release by Sledding With Tigers and when I finally listened to the whole thing I was relieved it didn't let me down.

And if you'er wondering, yes it's an album by this half pop punk - half folk band basically going through the whole Space Jam movie from Jordan's retirement

Comfort Zones and Tamales

Photos by Zina

This past weekend I dug though my closest and dusted off the Lecia D-Lux. Now for those that aren’t too familiar, this isn’t the top of the line kind. It’s definitely a high class compact camera. It’s a beauty. Lecia is known for its quality, and for its class, this camera really packs a punch. It’s defiantly not the DSLR I’ve become accustomed to shooting with.

What's Doom Surf?

Eskeletor are border kids that found themselves living in Austin with the intentions of not making a band but just living their life, but eventually had to make this band since music just can't die if it's running through your veins.

Stream Brother's Song here and Missing You here, two of their songs off the demo, affectionately  named by the fans as Fight Off Your Demons, but renamed by the band

As I waited in the air lock, shoes off and camera ready, I was briefed on safety procedures and a bit of the instillation's history. Quite honestly it was hard to concentrate

Queen/Doula - Thank you Badu.

This Texas Queen from Dallas released her new mixtape: But You Caint Use My Phone

Stream here on spotify or buy it off itunes here.

There's nothing you can really say about her new project, just that it's amazing on the ears, leaves you dazed and in love.  Taking some of my favorite songs like New Edition's Mr.Telephone Man and making it her own.  She crafts songs from the past, centered around telephones and leaves her mark on every sample/re-do/remix/rewrite she does

The Pageant where everybody wins.

I had to leave them with their chips and salsa, tater tots and their non chicken, chik'n taco to listen to this band.

Modrag

Modrag. 3 piece. Out of Austin.

Ghosting is a 3 piece out of Austin, deserving of a listen.

I came across them through a friend of mine.

He was holding a house show and they were on the bill, the name stuck out instantly and when I followed the link and clicked play, I knew I had
